25kg Straight Kikuyu
This seeding cultivar is similar to “common” Kikuyu with taller or more erect growth, leaves are slightly broader with thicker stems but it is slower to form a dense sward.
Kikuyu is mainly confined to the relatively high fertility soils with good average rainfall (>1000mm) along
the coastal belt as frost will limit its growth and production.
Kikuyu is an aggressive stoliferous rhizomatous perennial grass with some salt tolerance (thought to be
in the range of 1500-3500 ppm).
It is deep-rooted and extremely productive on fertile soils and responds well to fertilisers, particularly nitrogen (N), on lower soils. Kikuyu provides excellent forage for all grazing animals, beef, dairy, sheep, goat,
horse and camel.
Kikuyu can stand some dry conditions - its deep rootedness assists survival under dry conditions.
Kikuyu is also used for dual purposes such as turf, soil stabilisation (spillways, irrigation channel walls, etc)
