Red thread
Laetisaria fuciformis
Pink or red threads on pale leaves can explain discoloured patches.

What to look for
- Pale or tan leaves within irregular patches.
- Red thread-like structures extend from affected leaves.
- Pink tufts may be visible when leaves are wet.
Confirm it before you treat it
Look closely at a fresh patch edge. A reddish lawn from a distance is not enough; photograph the thread-like structures. Compare with Microdochium patch where wet matted leaves or pink growth may also occur.
What to do next
- Review slow growth, light and nutrition rather than adding fertiliser without checking the need.
- Reduce unnecessarily prolonged leaf wetness and improve air movement where practical.
- Clean affected clippings from equipment before moving into unaffected areas.
Conditions matter more than dates.
Moist leaves and slow-growing susceptible turf create an opportunity. The disease can appear outside its usual seasonal window.
Cool to mild wet spells, often around spring and autumn in temperate sites, warrant inspection.
Is red thread the same as winter Fusarium?
No. Look for the characteristic red structures and get uncertain samples checked before choosing a treatment.
