A little know-how goes a long way

Make your next
lawn job easier.

Start with the basics. A clear area, a suitable setup and a better understanding of the problem make it easier to choose your next step.

01 / Start with your patch

How big is your lawn, really?

A lawn area measured in square metres helps you compare pack coverage and avoid guesswork.

  1. Sketch the lawn and split it into manageable shapes.
  2. For each rectangle, measure the length and width in metres, then multiply them.
  3. For a triangle, multiply the base by its height and divide by two.
  4. Add the sections together. Leave out paths, garden beds and other areas you won’t treat.
  5. Use the total area when checking the exact product coverage and directions.

Example: A lawn 8 metres long and 5 metres wide is 40 m². Two separate rectangles of 40 m² and 25 m² give a total area of 65 m².

This measures area, not a product dose. Use the product’s current directions to work out the amount for your job.

02 / Match the setup to the site

Choose a watering setup that fits.

Choose around your site and water supply, rather than hose length alone.

  • Lawn layout: Note the shape, obstacles and the parts you need to reach.
  • Water supply: Check available flow and pressure, then compare them with the product requirements.
  • Connections: Match fittings to the tap and hose. Work out whether a reel or a portable setup suits the job.
  • Local conditions: Watering needs change with grass, soil, climate and restrictions in your area.

Share those details with Turfmate if you’re choosing between setups.

03 / Know what you’re treating

Weeds, pests or something else?

Patchy or discoloured grass can have more than one cause. Gather the basics before choosing a treatment.

  • Your grass type and location.
  • Clear close-up photographs and a wider view of the affected area.
  • When the change started and whether it has spread.
  • Recent watering, mowing, fertilising or other treatments.
  • Any visible weeds, insects, damage or changes to the soil.

Email the details to our team. Once the problem is identified, check that any product is suitable for your grass and the target, and follow its current label.

You’ve got a mate in your corner.

Tell us what you’re working on. Send your grass type, location and a few clear photos so we can help with the next step.
