What to look for

  • Soft, lighter green clumps in an otherwise uniform lawn.
  • Small branching seed heads can appear at low height.
  • Shallow-rooted plants sit separately from surrounding runners.

Confirm it before you treat it

Winter grass can be mistaken for another desirable lawn variety. Inspect leaf texture, the seed head and the base of a clump. Ask us to check your lawn type before choosing a grass-selective product.

What to do next

  1. Hand-remove small plants before seed return where practical.
  2. Reduce gaps and avoid repeatedly keeping the soil surface unnecessarily wet.
  3. Plan prevention before the next germination window; an existing mature clump needs a separate approach.
Seasonal watch

Conditions matter more than dates.

Cooling, moist conditions commonly encourage germination. Established plants can set seed before they are obvious from a distance.

Late-summer and autumn planning can precede cooler-season germination in temperate lawns. Rain and soil temperature shift the dates.

Can I apply OxaFert after winter grass is visible?

It will not control established weeds. Ask us about an existing infestation and plan future prevention separately.
